Botanicals in Art/Florals in Still Life
Aldo Castillo hosts the Chicago School
of Flower Design in a course featuring the principles of design and flower
art. Popular artists like Matisse, Monet
and Warhol and lesser known artists such as Juan de Arelleno (Spanish), Rachel
Ruysch (Dutch) and Fantine Latour (French) have all used flowers in still
life.
The floral still life is an art classic. From the artist’s work to styles
of English, Asian, Contemporary, Latin American and traditional American, art
will be examined and re-created in class using fresh flowers. The art of the
Aldo Castillo Gallery will inspire as the masters share their floral design.
Master Designer Michael Gaffney of Chicago School of Flower Design shares his
secrets in recreating the great floral styles of the classics.
The floral industry and the meaning of flowers will be covered as well. Botanicals from Holland, exotics from the Pacific and Callas from South America will be used to re-create the artist’s designs in high end floral still life. All materials, tools and fresh flowers will be provided. Stop and smell the roses and then work them into a classic English design this January. Surround yourself in flowers, fragrance and design at the Aldo Castillo Gallery. This is a special curriculum designed for this series of classes. A portion of the tuition proceeds goes to the River North Neighborhood Association. Future events looking into the historical and societal importance of flowers and their meaning are scheduled as well.
